14th Annual Scarecrow Festival:
Sowing Seeds of Liberty: 250 Years of Bold Ideas
This year’s theme, “Sowing Seeds of Liberty: 250 Years of Bold Ideas,” honors the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and celebrates the spirit of innovation that has driven Andover forward over the last two and a half centuries.
In 1776, a group of revolutionaries declared that a new nation would be built on the bold ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Those ideas were seeds — planted in uncertain soil, tended by generations of Americans, and still growing today. Scarecrows have always stood in fields, guarding our seeds and safeguarding the promise of a future harvest.
This year’s scarecrows will showcase past and present innovations that have shaped Andover—and illuminate future ideas our community needs to nurture for continued success.
From Samuel Phillips Jr.’s vision of one of the nation’s oldest preparatory academies to John Smith’s mills that forged Andover into an industrial center, this town has long rewarded bold thinking.
That legacy lives on in the businesses calling Andover home today. Building a scarecrow isn’t just about decorating Main Street—it’s an act of stewardship, supporting the schools where the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders takes root.
