Residents strolling down Main Street over the next week may notice there are some new visitors hanging around downtown.
The third annual Andover Scarecrow Festival officially kicked off Saturday with an opening ceremony in front of Old Town Hall. Sponsored by the Andover Coalition for Education (ACE), the week-long festival helps raise money for activities and initiatives used throughout all of the Andover schools.
“We’re really excited about the festival this year. It’s our biggest year so far,” Lenore Price, ACE president, said Saturday. “It’s a great way to really bring the community together and help raise awareness about our schools.”
The festival runs from Oct. 17 to Oct. 25. This year, 66 different scarecrows are lined up and down Main Street. The scarecrows are created by various Andover schools and community organizations and sponsored by local businesses. Each scarecrow has specific emblems pertaining to the school or group.
